Chicken Surf operates on a straightforward endless runner framework built around perspective-based train track navigation. The engine renders a first-person view down parallel railroad tracks that recede to a vanishing point, creating depth perception critical to obstacle anticipation. The chicken character occupies the bottom center of the playfield, with lateral movement controlled exclusively by left and right arrow inputs mapped to on-screen blue square buttons.

The core challenge stems from randomly generated train spawns that appear from the horizon and rush toward the player. Yellow subway cars serve as the primary obstacle type, requiring split-second lane switches to avoid collision. The difficulty scaling system modifies train frequency and speed across three modes: Easy with green indicator allows reaction time of approximately two seconds, Medium with yellow indicator tightens this to one second, while Hard with red indicator demands near-instant reflexes with sub-second windows.

The scoring architecture layers a base point accumulation system with cascading multiplier mechanics. Gold coins scattered along the track surface provide collectible point bonuses, while survival duration increases the active multiplier visible at screen top. Multipliers scale from x3 through x5, x66, and peak at x300 for extended runs, exponentially amplifying score growth. High score persistence operates independently per difficulty tier, creating three parallel progression tracks that encourage repeated attempts across all modes.
